Ford posting profit in 2009 in wake of Toyota’s recall

Ford is hoping to be able to profit from Toyota’s temporary halt in production of the troubled vehicles. This coming at the same time that Ford reports its first yearly profit since 2005. http://www.nytimes.com/2010/01/29/business/29ford.html

Manufacturing Jobs Jolt in Chicago

Manufacturing unemployment in Chicago is about to see substantial relief as Ford Motor Co shifts manufacturing of the next generation Explorer from Louisville to the city’s south side.
1,200 jobs will be added at the factory, doubling the size of its current workforce. Chicago Heights’ Ford stamping facility will also see a lift in jobs.

Housing Starts Rise in November

The US Department of Commerce reported Wednesday that housing starts grew 8.9% month-over-month to a seasonally adjusted 574,000 annual rate. The number beat analysts’ expectations and comes as a positive surprise following the substantial drop reported in October.
Analysts believe that worse-than-average national weather patterns in October coupled with better-than-average patterns in November contributed to the improvement. The return, and expansion, of the home owner tax-credit also help the odds that a potential buyer will purchase a home.

Obama Thinks My Insulation’s Sexy!

Construction and Manufacturing Payroll Report (October)

Seasonally adjusted Regional and State Employment data released by the US Bureau of Labor Statistics this morning paralleled that of the Employment Situation report released Nov. 4 showing a slight overall improvement with pockets of growth sprinkled throughout.
Payrolls within the construction and manufacturing sectors continue to feel the heat of a long lagging recovery that is sure to be drawn out longer than other sectors of the economy.
